Camtasia Alternatives (2026): 7 Tools Compared on Price and Editing
Vorec Team · 2026-10-20 · About 5 min read
The main Camtasia alternatives are Descript, Tella, ScreenPal, Loom, OBS Studio, Clueso and Vorec, and they differ mostly in how much editing you do by hand. Camtasia's own plans are yearly: Starter $39 (watermarked editor), Essentials $179.88, Create $249 (adds generated voiceover) and Pro $599. This page compares the alternatives from vendor pages captured between 6 and 15 October 2026 (Vorec: plan catalog, 5 October 2026). Prices are dollars as displayed, we did not test the tools against each other, and "not checked" means we could not confirm it, not that it is absent. Vorec is our product.

1. Descript: edit video by editing text
Descript generates a transcript from recorded or uploaded media; deleting words deletes the matching video. Its AI Speech lists text-to-speech, custom voice clones and Regenerate within a shared AI credit pool on Hobbyist and above. Desktop app requirements: macOS 14 or Windows 11 or newer. Hobbyist is $24 a month ($16 with annual billing, 10 media hours); Creator $35 ($24, 30 hours); Business $65 ($50, 40 hours). See Descript pricing and Camtasia vs Descript.
2. Tella: presenter-style videos
Tella's editor lists transcript-based cuts, filler and silence removal, automatic click zooms, layouts and backgrounds, and a recorder for the browser, Mac and Windows. Pro is $26 per user a month ($13 with annual billing) with 4K export and 3,000 AI credits a month for its Tella Agent (beta, chat-based editing) and other AI features; the trial includes no credits. Premium is $39 ($19). Its pricing page lists no free creator plan; new workspaces get a 7-day trial. See Tella pricing.
3. ScreenPal: the lowest paid prices here
ScreenPal's recorder and editor advertise no watermark and apps for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and Chromebook. Free allows 15-minute recordings and 10 hosted videos; Deluxe is $4 a month and Max $10 a month, both paid annually, with AI speech-to-text captions listed from Deluxe and AI narration and video generation from Max. Its recorder page says unlimited free hosting while the pricing card caps Free at 10 hosted videos; assume the pricing card applies.

4. Loom: quick messages with basic editing
Loom records screen and camera for a shareable link, with auto titles, transcription and closed captions on every tier. Starter caps screen recordings at five minutes and 720p; Business is $18 per user a month ($15 with annual billing) with trim, stitch and basic waveform editing, up to 4K (no multi-track timeline editor is listed); Business + AI is $24 ($20) and adds transcript editing. See Loom pricing.
5. OBS Studio: free recording, no editor
OBS Studio is free, open source recording and live-streaming software for Windows, Mac and Linux, with scenes, transitions and many sources. Its page describes recording and streaming; we did not find editing or narration features listed, so most people pair it with an editor.
6. Clueso: automation with output allowances
Clueso records with a browser extension or takes uploads, then drafts an editable script, AI narration, captions and zoom, with written step guides on every plan. Solo is $50 a month with 15 video minutes and 15 articles a month ($40 a month with annual billing, which gives 3 hours and 180 articles upfront). See Clueso pricing and Clueso vs Camtasia.
7. Vorec: narration drafted from the capture
Vorec records with its own macOS recorder or takes an uploaded recording, drafts narration matched to the captured workflow, voices it, and can generate a written guide. Its editor has a multi-track timeline with callouts, spotlight, blur, zoom and captions. Plans: 7-day trial with 100 credits and no card; Starter $9, Pro $24, Business $59 a month. See Vorec pricing.
