Camtasia vs CapCut (2026): Training Videos or Social Clips?

Vorec Team · 2026-10-23 · About 5 min read

Camtasia is a desktop screen-recording editor for tutorials, software demos and training, sold as annual licences with quizzes and SCORM from its Essentials plan; CapCut is a mobile-first template and effects editor for short social video whose price changes with region, device and promotions. One is priced like training software, the other like a phone app subscription. Our sources are TechSmith's Camtasia store and FAQ captured 7 October 2026, plus CapCut's help pages and its US Apple App Store listing captured 2 October 2026. We did not test either product, amounts are US dollars as displayed, and "Not checked" marks anything our captures could not confirm. Vorec publishes this comparison and appears near the end.

How CapCut pricing works

There is no public CapCut price list that holds for everyone. CapCut's cost help article ties the amount to your country, your device and any running promotion, and tells you to open the upgrade screen inside your own account to see it. The figures we could pin down come only from the iOS App Store in the US: $9.99 for Standard Monthly, $19.99 for Pro Monthly, and $89.99 for a Yearly Subscription that the listing does not attach to a named plan. Android, web and other countries may show different numbers.

Which to choose

Pick Camtasia when you build software walkthroughs, onboarding or course material on a computer: it is organised around screen captures, adds quizzes and SCORM export for a learning platform from Essentials, bundles Snagit for screenshots, and Create adds generated voiceover and scripts. Its paid tiers are published flat annual amounts.

Pick CapCut when your output is vertical clips for TikTok, Reels or Shorts and you want templates and effects you can apply from your phone. You can start without paying; before publishing, confirm the watermark rules for any premium template and the licence on each sound or asset you use.

Year-one cost

CapCut is shown only with the US iOS App Store figures, which may not match your region or device.

OptionBasisYear one
Camtasia Starter (watermarked exports)$39 a year$39
Camtasia Essentials (first watermark-free tier)$179.88 a year$179.88
Camtasia Create (generated voiceover)$249 a year$249
CapCut Standard Monthly, US iOS$9.99 x 12$119.88
CapCut Pro Monthly, US iOS$19.99 x 12$239.88
CapCut Yearly Subscription, US iOS (plan not named)$89.99 once$89.99

Monthly figures assume twelve renewals at the listed price with no promotion and before tax. A team of eight on Camtasia Business works out to 8 x $198 = $1,584 a year.

Where Vorec fits

Camtasia and CapCut both leave the script and the voice to you. Vorec captures your screen with its own macOS recorder, or accepts a recording you already made, then writes narration timed to each on-screen step, generates the voiceover and can turn that same capture into a written guide. You start with a free trial (no credit card required), then pay $9, $24 or $59 a month for Starter, Pro or Business.

Frequently asked questions

Is CapCut cheaper than Camtasia?

On the US iOS storefront, a year of Standard Monthly comes to $119.88, below Camtasia Essentials at $179.88, while Pro Monthly comes to $239.88, above it. Your own CapCut price can differ by region and device. More detail is in CapCut pricing.

Can CapCut make SCORM training content?

Not checked. Our CapCut captures covered pricing, trials, watermarks, credits and licences, not LMS export.

Does Camtasia have a free trial?

The Editor itself is free with watermarked exports. The 14 days on TechSmith's store is a money-back guarantee on a paid licence, not a trial period.

Do CapCut exports have a watermark?

Sometimes. CapCut says it depends on the features, templates and app version, and its help describes watermark-free routes when you skip premium templates.
