Descript vs CapCut (2026): Transcript Editing or Templates?
Vorec Team · 2026-10-22 · About 4 min read
Descript edits video by editing its transcript, which suits talk-led videos such as podcasts, interviews and tutorials; CapCut is a timeline and template editor built for short social clips, with a free tier and a mobile-first app. Descript publishes fixed plan prices; CapCut says its price depends on region, device and promotions. Facts come from Descript's pricing page captured 15 October 2026 and CapCut's help pages and US App Store listing captured 2 October 2026; we did not test either tool, and "not checked" means we could not confirm it. Vorec, which publishes this page, is covered at the end.

How CapCut pricing works
CapCut's own help page says the price you see depends on your region, device and current promotions, and sends web users to sign in and pick Upgrade to see it. The only fixed amounts we could capture were in the US Apple App Store listing (Standard Monthly $9.99, Pro Monthly $19.99, plus a Yearly Subscription at $89.99 whose plan is not named). Treat those as iPhone prices in the US, not a web or worldwide price.
Which to choose
Choose Descript if your videos are mostly people talking: you remove filler words and mistakes by deleting text, fix lines with AI Speech, and work on desktop. The price is fixed and published: $16 a month on annual billing to start.
Choose CapCut if you make short vertical clips for TikTok, Reels or Shorts, want templates and effects, and edit on your phone. You can start free; check the watermark rules for any premium template you use and your own region's Pro price.
Where Vorec fits
