One Recording, Two Outputs: Video + Written Guide

Vorec Team · 2026-10-25 · About 7 min read

Vorec turns one screen recording into both a narrated tutorial video and a written step-by-step guide: it detects the actions in the capture, writes and voices the narration, and generates the guide from the same steps. Among the tools we have priced, Clueso and Trupeer also list video plus written output from one recording, while Scribe and Tango centre on step documents and Guidde on AI video guides. Competitor facts come from our dated pricing pages; "not checked" means our reads did not cover it. Vorec publishes this page.

The short answer

If you want a tutorial video and a written guide from a single capture, you need a tool that keeps the actions it detected and can render them two ways: as a timed, voiced video and as a list of titled steps with screenshots. Vorec does this. You record on its macOS recorder, let an AI agent drive the capture through the CLI, or upload a recording you already have. The AI detects the on-screen actions, drafts narration matched to them and generates the voiceover, so you never speak into a microphone. From those same actions it generates a written step-by-step guide you can publish as a shareable link. Clueso (read 18 and 30 September 2026) and Trupeer (read 15 October 2026) also list video and document output. Scribe and Tango are built around written step guides; Guidde around AI video guides.

Why make both from one recording?

Because the two outputs describe the same workflow, and keeping them on one source keeps them consistent.

When the video and the written guide are produced separately, they drift. Someone re-records the video after a UI change and forgets the guide, or a writer paraphrases a button label that the video shows correctly. One recording gives both outputs the same steps, in the same order, with the same on-screen labels.

It also saves the second pass. Producing a guide by hand means redoing the task with a screenshot tool open; producing a video by hand means recording again with a script. A shared source removes one of those runs.

And readers differ. Some watch; others scan a numbered list while working in another window. An SOP owner often needs the written version for audit and the video for onboarding. Shipping both covers each reader without doubling the work.

What does each output actually need?

The same recording, but different finishing work.

Tutorial videoWritten guide
Core unitA timed segment per actionA numbered step per action
WordsNarration, spoken at a natural paceStep titles and short instructions
VisualsThe recording itself, zoomed where it mattersA screenshot per step, ideally annotated
TimingNarration must line up with what happens on screenNone; the reader sets the pace
Where it livesExported file or shared linkHelp center, wiki or shared page

The video needs narration, zoom and pacing. A silent recording of fast clicks is hard to follow. Narration tells the viewer what is happening and why. Zoom brings a small control into view at the moment it is used. Pacing makes sure the spoken explanation is not still running when the screen has already moved on.

The guide needs step titles, screenshots and text. Each step should name one action with the exact on-screen label, show where it happens, and say what changes afterwards. For template formats you can fill in, see our software training manual guide and template and the SaaS user manual guide.

How does the workflow go in Vorec?

  1. Record or upload. Use the macOS recorder, have an AI coding agent drive it through the CLI, or upload an existing screen recording.
  2. AI analysis of actions. Vorec detects the on-screen actions (clicks, typing, navigation) and splits the recording into segments, one per action.
  3. Narration and voiceover. It drafts a script matched to each segment and generates the voiceover. You edit the wording before or after audio is generated.
  4. Edit the video. The editor offers cursor-follow zoom and automatic zoom on clicks. Freeze-sync holds a frame while a narration line finishes, so the voice and the screen stay aligned.
  5. Export the video. Render the finished tutorial as a video file.
  6. Generate the written guide. From the same segments, Vorec generates a step-by-step article with screenshots and step text. Check every step against the recording and edit what needs it.
  7. Publish and share. Publish the guide as a shareable link. On eligible plans, narration can be translated into supported languages.

The generated guide is a draft. AI can miss or misread an action, so review step labels and screenshots before you publish, and record with demo data if the workflow touches real customer records.

Which other tools do this?

Here is what our pricing pages say each product produces, with the date each page gives for its read. We have not tested these tools hands-on.

Clueso. Our Clueso pricing page, verified 18 September 2026 with plan prices rechecked 30 September, lists uploaded recordings, step guides, five article formats, translation and MP4 export across plans, and describes Clueso as video plus written guides. It meters usage on export minutes, and each translation counts as a separate video.

Trupeer. Our Trupeer pricing page, read 15 October 2026, says even the 10-day Free plan lists AI video and document generation plus video upload, and Pro adds document export in DOC, PDF and Markdown. All plans run on shared AI credits: 100 per video minute and 50 per AI document. That page notes we did not confirm narration written from a silent recording.

Scribe. Our Scribe pricing page, verified 8 October 2026, describes Scribe as a capture-to-guide tool for written step guides. It can share a guide as video, but that video is generated from the captured steps rather than a narrated recording of the screen. Our Guidde page, rechecked the same day, also lists Scribe's Movies video output and video import.

Tango. Our Tango pricing page, verified 17 September 2026 (monthly price rechecked 15 October), says Tango produces a step-by-step document from captured clicks. Pro adds video embeds and PDF/HTML/Markdown export. Our page does not say Tango generates a narrated video, so we do not claim it.

Guidde. Our Guidde pricing page, verified 16 September 2026, describes AI video guides with web capture; desktop capture, MP4 import and unlimited text-to-voice sit on Business. It does not say whether Guidde produces a separate written step document, so that is "not checked".

Quick answers

Can one screen recording become both a video and a written guide?

Yes. Tools like Vorec detect the actions in the recording once, then use them for a narrated video and for a step-by-step written guide.

How do I turn a screen recording into a step-by-step guide?

Upload or record the workflow in a tool that detects actions, generate the guide, then check each step title, screenshot and label against the recording before publishing.

Is screen recording to documentation accurate enough for SOPs?

As a first draft, yes. Have the process owner review every step, add owners and controls, and record with test data.

Do I need to record my own voice?

Not with Vorec. It writes the narration and generates the voiceover from the recording.

Does Vorec have a free plan?

No. It offers a free trial with no credit card required (current allowances on the pricing page), then paid plans from $9 a month.
