Add a Voiceover to a Loom Video (2026)

Vorec Team · 2026-10-26 · About 7 min read

Loom can patch your own voice, but it cannot give a recording a new voiceover. Its text-to-speech feature replaces up to 10 short phrases per video in a voice cloned from yours, and only on videos you recorded in Loom, in English. None of the Loom help pages we read on 26 October 2026 describe replacing the whole audio track, importing a separate voiceover file, or choosing a different AI voice. To narrate a silent or rambling Loom from scratch, download it as an MP4 (paid plans only), upload that file to a tool that writes and voices narration, and export a new video.

Every Loom fact below comes from Loom's help centre on support.atlassian.com, captured on 26 October 2026, and from our Loom pricing notes rechecked on 23 October 2026. We did not test Loom's text-to-speech ourselves.

What Loom can do with audio today

Loom's audio tools are built for fixing a recording you already narrated, not for adding narration to one you didn't.

Loom's text-to-speech, and its limits

Loom's help article "Fix mistakes without re-recording using text-to-speech" (read 26 October 2026) says you highlight the words you want to change in the transcript, type the replacement, and save. The corrected audio then plays in your voice.

The limits matter if you were hoping for a full voiceover:

So a Loom you recorded with no microphone has nothing to patch. And a screen recording you made in another tool and uploaded to Loom is excluded outright.

Loom AI needs your audio first

Loom's page on making videos eligible for AI editing (read 26 October 2026) says its AI features require audio to generate transcripts, and that videos must be at least 60 seconds long for chapters, summaries and titles. The same page says AI features are on Business + AI and Enterprise only.

On price, our Loom pricing notes (rechecked 23 October 2026) list Business + AI at $24 per user a month, or $240 a year. See Loom pricing for the full plan breakdown.

How to add a new voiceover to a Loom video

If you need a fresh narration, not a ten-phrase patch, the workflow runs outside Loom. You take the video out as a file and narrate it somewhere else.

Step by step

  1. Check that you can download. Loom's "Download your Loom video" page (read 26 October 2026) says downloads are available on Business, Business + AI and Enterprise. On Business plans, admins and creators can download; Starter (free) users cannot. If the Loom isn't yours, the owner has to turn on downloads for viewers, or send you the file.
  2. Download the MP4. Open the video from your Loom library, select the menu above the video and choose Download. Loom downloads in MP4 format. Trims carry over, but Loom says captions, chapters, CTAs and filler-word and silence removal are not included in the downloaded file.
  3. Upload the MP4 to Vorec. It doesn't import Loom links, so you upload the file itself, in the browser on any operating system.
  4. Let the AI draft the script. It detects the on-screen actions (clicks, typing, page changes) and drafts narration matched to each one.
  5. Edit the words, then generate the voiceover. Rewrite any line you like, then generate the AI voice. You never record with a microphone.
  6. Polish the timing. Cursor-follow zoom and click auto-zoom keep the action readable, and freeze-sync holds a frame when a sentence needs more time than the original footage gives it.
  7. Export the video, and the guide if you want it. Export the narrated MP4. From the same recording, you can also generate a written step-by-step guide.

Turn the original Loom audio down or off before you narrate. A rambling first take under a clean AI voiceover is harder to follow than silence.

Why this beats re-recording

Re-recording a Loom means narrating live while you click. Any slip costs another take, and an interface change means doing it all again.

Narrating afterwards splits the two jobs. You record the workflow once without speaking, then fix the script as text. That's the same idea behind our guide to adding narration to a screen recording.

Which option should you use?

Stay in Loom if you recorded with your voice, the mistakes are a few words long, and you're on Business + AI or Enterprise. Text-to-speech plus filler-word removal is the fastest fix, and your share link stays the same.

Re-narrate outside Loom if the recording is silent, the original audio is unusable, the video was uploaded rather than recorded in Loom, or the transcript isn't English. Loom's text-to-speech excludes all four cases, according to the help page we read.

Consider recording somewhere else next time if most of your Looms end up as tutorials rather than messages. Our Loom alternative with AI narration page compares that route.

Quick answers

Can you add a voiceover to a Loom video?

Not as a separate track, based on Loom's help pages read on 26 October 2026. Loom can replace up to 10 short phrases with text-to-speech in your own cloned voice, on Business + AI and Enterprise. For a full new voiceover, download the MP4 and narrate it in another tool.

Does Loom have an AI voiceover?

Loom has AI text-to-speech that regenerates your own voice for edited words. It is in beta, limited to 10 replacements per video and English transcripts. We found no option to pick a different AI voice or to generate narration for a silent video.

How do I replace the audio in a Loom video?

None of the Loom help pages we read describe swapping the whole audio track. Download the video as an MP4, replace or remove the audio in a video editor or a narration tool, and share the new file.

Can I narrate a Loom I recorded without a microphone?

Not inside Loom. Its AI features need audio to build a transcript, and text-to-speech edits the existing transcript. Download the MP4 and use a tool that writes narration from the on-screen actions.

Does Loom's text-to-speech work on uploaded videos?

No. Loom's help page lists uploaded videos, meeting recordings, non-English transcripts and clips you did not create as unsupported (read 26 October 2026).

Do I lose anything when I download a Loom?

Trims are kept. Captions, chapters, CTAs and filler-word and silence removal are not included in the MP4, according to Loom.
